Becoming...

For Women's History Month, I choose to highlight former First Lady Michelle Obama. Michelle Obama was more than just the first African-American First Lady of the United States of America. She exudes class, grace , and selflessness. Prior to becoming First Lady, Michelle Obama worked as an attorney, an assistant commissioner of planning and development in Chicago’s City Hall, executive director of the Chicago chapter of Public Allies, and later as Assistant Dean of Student Services. In everything that she has done, Michelle Obama carries her passion of helping others. Even in her role as First Lady through initiatives such as the Reach Higher Initiative and Let Girls Learn, Michelle Obama inspires to spark change in the world.

As a current law student with a passion for helping others beyond the courtroom , I aspire to affect as much change in the world as Michelle Obama. I specifically aspire to affect change in the area of pre-collegiate outreach. Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher initiative is near and dear to my heart because I think it is extremely important to encourage the youth, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, to higher education at an early age. Through my work in undergrad at the University of Florida with pre-collegiate outreach organizations and from my current experience as an ICE Fellow, I hope to one day be change agent in this area.
